Terms of Service

Last updated 4 September 2026. By using the pgProof command-line tool or the hosted service, you agree to these terms.

What pgProof does

pgProof backs up your PostgreSQL databases and restore-tests each backup in a disposable environment, reporting whether the restore succeeded. The command-line tool is free, open-source software (see Licence below) that runs on your own machine. The hosted service runs backups and drills on a schedule, stores encrypted backups, and sends you reports and alerts.

Your account and your responsibilities

Acceptable use

Don't use pgProof to break the law, to access databases you have no right to, to overload or probe infrastructure that isn't yours, or to attempt to disrupt the service. We may suspend accounts that do.

The important part: backups, warranty, and liability

Please read this section carefully — it matters for any backup service.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of the above may not apply to you.

Pricing and payment

The command-line tool is free. Paid plans for the hosted service, when available, are billed as described at checkout. This section will be expanded when paid plans launch.

The open-source tool

The pgProof command-line tool is licensed under the GNU AGPL-3.0. You are free to use, modify, and self-host it under that licence. The hosted service and its infrastructure are proprietary.

Termination and changes

You may stop using pgProof and delete your data at any time. We may suspend or end access for violations of these terms. If we change these terms materially for the hosted service, we notify account holders by email; continued use after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the applicable laws of Canada, and any dispute is subject to the courts of Quebec.
